Dragonkind Dragon Tail Types

A result-card reference for the tail classifications players are receiving, without mixing broader book lore into game mechanics.

Quick answer

Rebecca Yarros’s official FAQ confirms that Dragonkind can bond players with dragons of all tail types. The adult tail names commonly referenced in Empyrean lore are Daggertail, Morningstartail, Swordtail, Clubtail, and Scorpiontail.

What about Feathertails?

Broader Empyrean references describe Feathertail as a young-dragon stage rather than one of the five adult combat tail classifications. The current Dragonkind launch discussion commonly describes 30 color-tail combinations — six colors multiplied by five adult tail types.

Because the official FAQ only says “all tail types” without enumerating them, this page keeps that arithmetic in the community/lore bucket rather than presenting it as an official Dragonkind specification.

Tail type does not currently give you a route

Players are receiving different tail types across the common color families, but current route mapping focuses much more on encounter color and branch structure than on targeting a specific tail.

FAQ

Can I choose my Dragonkind tail type?
No reliable choice sequence for a specific tail type has been established. The official FAQ only confirms that all tail types are possible.
